We were awarded this contract by Makers Construction, a large structural refurbishment main contractor based in Staffordshire. This was our first job for them, but we built up a good working relationship during the project and have completed several other contracts for them since. Middleborough Car Park was built back in 1979 and was in desperate need of refurbishment and strengthening works due to its age and poor construction design. Makers would also install a cathodic protection system to protect the structure and steel reinforcements from further future deterioration. The main elements of our work consisted:

  • Diamond drilling 1300 No. 36mm diameter holes through the 400mm thick RC columns to allow fitting of over two hundred failsafe brackets to support the ageing floor slabs over four floors of the car park.
  • RP drilling to form 3000 No. holes drilled into the floor slabs and drilled inverted up into the soffits to accept the cathodic protection anodes.
  • 1800 LM of chasing into the car park decks and inverted into the soffits to accept the cathodic protection system cabling.

The works were carried out with strict waste management. All dust and waste water was collected as work progressed and disposed of appropriately. We completed all phases of the job well within the required timescales thus assisting Makers to complete the works and hand back the car park to their client on time.
